Clements chasing wire-to-wire win in Portugal

Todd Clements will go in search of a wire-to-wire victory at the Open de Portugal after a five under par 67 to share the lead at Royal Óbidos.

A bogey at the final hole saw the Englishman tied for the lead on 12 under par with Frenchman Jeong Weon Ko heading into the final round.

The 26-year old was in sparkling form early, firing 30 on the front nine, highlighted by an ace on the 208 yard, par three 7th hole.

“I played nice, front nine especially, highlighted by the hole-in-one, that was a nice seven iron, straight down the hole,” he said.

“It looked good in the air, and it pitched right close to the hole and went in. It was a pleasing shot, obviously a lot of good luck is involved, just delighted that it happened to me.

“The course setup on the front nine was a little bit easier and I managed to take my opportunities. Looking forward to tomorrow.”

Clements secured his maiden Challenge Tour title at the Irish Challenge in July and is relishing the chance to add another victory to his name.

“Obviously it is a nice place to be, but the field is congested, there are a lot of good players behind me. I’m just going to go out there, do my thing and see where we end up.”

France’s David Ravetto shot the round of the day with a 64 and is one shot off the pace on 11-under par. Sweden’s Oscar Lengden, Finland’s Oliver Lindell and France’s Pierre Pineau are at ten 10 under.

The leaders will tee off at 10:10am local time tomorrow at Royal Óbidos.
