Dormy Open: Three to watch

The Dormy Open marks the first of back-to-back events on the European Challenge Tour in Sweden. Here are three players to watch out for at Askersunds Golfklubb, with seven events remaining ahead of the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by the R&A.

Form horse - Lauri Russka

It’s impossible to ignore the Finn. Even prior to his breakthrough Challenge Tour success on home soil last week, the 29-year-old was enjoying an excellent summer.

He finished eighth and 12th in Germany and Scotland, respectively, in a three-event stretch prior to his historic success at Vierumäki Resort.

After becoming just the fourth player in Challenge Tour history to card a 59 in the first round, he went on to claim a convincing seven-shot victory and climb to 25th on the Road to Mallorca.

Local favourite - Adam Blomme

Blomme returns to home soil ranked 7th in the Road to Mallorca Rankings.

Still searching for his first Challenge Tour title, Blomme has secured a second and third place this season and will be looking to turn good performances into an all-important title this weekend.

In 2021, Blomme placed T28th in the Dormy Open followed by a T37th the year after. Will a new venue for the event result in an improved showing for the 27-year-old this week?

The outsider - Emilio Cuartero Blanco

The Spaniard produced a grandstand finish to secure his second Challenge Tour title at this event last year.

After a slow start to this season, the 32-year-old has begun to find some momentum in recent weeks with a top ten at the Irish Challenge and a T12 at last week’s Vierumäki Finnish Challenge.

Currently ranked 98th on the Road to Mallorca, he will be aiming to maintain those encouraging signs as he looks to make up ground on the season-long standings.
