Feldborg Nielsen crowned Nordic Golf League Number One in style

Christopher Feldborg Nielsen produced a dramatic finish at the Road to Europe Tour Final, the final event of the 2021 Nordic Golf League season, to climb to the top of the Order of Merit and earn graduation to the European Challenge Tour for 2022.

The Swede found the rough with his tee shot on the 72nd hole at the season finale, but despite missing the fairway, he decided to attack the par five in two shots and miraculously made an albatross two. The albatross meant the 29-year-old entered a play-off with countryman Adam Blommé, and Feldborg Nielsen came out on top after birdieing the first play-off hole as Blommé could only make par.

Feldborg Nielsen’s victory at the final event of the season meant he sealed a Road to Europe Tour Final and Order of Merit double, having already picked up two victories earlier in the year at the Timberwise Finnish Open and PGA Championship Landeryd Masters. The Swede, who made 19 Challenge Tour starts in 2018, will feel more prepared to tackle the Road to Mallorca in 2022 having had such a successful season on the Nordic Golf League.

The 29-year-old will be joined on the Challenge Tour in 2022 by fellow Nordic Golf League graduates Blommé and Joakim Wikström, also of Sweden, and Danish duo Lasse Jensen and Peter Launer Bæk.

Jensen, who won the Nordic Golf League Order of Merit in 2009, returns to the Challenge Tour looking to finally obtain a maiden Challenge Tour title after two runner-up finishes in the Kenya Open in 2012 and 2014, an event which was elevated to the top tier in 2019.

The Nordic Golf League has historically produced European stars including two-time European Tour winner Lucas Bjerregaard, 2017 Challenge Tour Number One Tapio Pulkkanen and Niklas Nørgaard Møller, who finished 16th on the 2021 Road to Mallorca Rankings to earn graduation to the DP World Tour.
