The race heats up
The race to finish inside the top 20 on the Road to Mallorca Rankings is set to heat up, with players fighting to secure their promotion to the DP World Tour this week. With additional Ranking points and prize money of US$500,000 on offer, a good result will ensure a significant move up the Rankings for all players ahead of the season finale.
Tournament venue
The Challenge Tour returns to the majestic Sanya Luhuitou Golf Club for the first time in five years. Set against the stunning backdrop of the South China Sea, the Sanya Luhuitou Golf Club – having previously hosted the Hainan Open from 2016 to 2019 – will be the battleground for players on its par-72, 7,184 yard parkland layout course again.
Event history
The Hainan Open has been the springboard to success for many players who have gone on to make their mark not only on the DP World Tour but abroad. Italy’s Matteo Manassero, who played in the 2023 edition, and is the youngest winner in DP World Tour history, secured a fifth win on golf’s Global Tour this year. France’s Mathieu Pavon, who teed it up in the 2016 edition, secured his first PGA TOUR win this season following his breakthrough win in the acciona Open de España presented by Madrid last year. European Ryder Cup winning player Robert MacIntyre also played in the 2018 edition of the Hainan Open.
