Casey Jarvis will be looking to maintain his position at the top of the Road to Mallorca Rankings when he tees it up in the Big Green Egg Challenge powered by VcG at Wittelsbacher Golfclub this week, just days after securing a maiden win on the European Challenge Tour.
The South African's victory in the Euram Bank Open last week saw him climb into pole position on the Road to Mallorca, and he is now looking to ride the crest of a wave in Neuburg an der Donau.
“I haven’t had much time to reflect yet, but I think it has started to sink in what I achieved,” he said. “Wins don’t come very often and as it was my first as a professional, I’m really happy.
“I got a little down a few weeks ago when I didn’t have the results I wanted, and then I saw my dad and my girlfriend which helped me a lot, and I started believing again. I played well in Italy and got it done last week. I’ve got a lot of confidence right now which doesn’t come often in golf, so I’ve just got to keep riding that confidence.”
The 19-year-old has put himself in a strong position to earn promotion to the DP World Tour at the end of the season but is still hungry for more success this week.
“It’s business as usual this week,” he said. “I’ll be trying to play to win. I think there’s a little less pressure on me now with where I am in the Rankings, but I want to keep at it and be out here to try and win a golf tournament again.
“The win gets me a few more invites on the DP World Tour. Hopefully there will be an invite to the ISPS HANDA World Invitational presented by AVIV Clinics, and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. I’m going to take next week off and then I’ll be back at it.
“The win puts me first in the Rankings which means a lot. My goal for the year, before the Challenge Tour season started, was to finish in the top five, so I’m getting closer to my goal and I’m just excited for the rest of the season.”
Jarvis joins a strong field in Germany, which includes seven-time DP World Tour winner Alvaro Quiros and two-time DP World Tour winner Lucas Bjerregaard.
