SDC Championship - Day three digest

Everything you need to know from Moving Day at St. Francis Links.

Syme

Connor Syme jumped into a share of the lead while Andy Sullivan managed to keep the bogeys off his card on day three of the 2024 SDC Championship.

Here is everything you need to know from Moving Day at St. Francis Links.

Syme makes huge move

Scotland's Syme began the day five shots off the top, but with those in the final groups struggling for consistency on another windy day in Eastern Cape, his 67 was enough to earn a share of the lead on 11 under par with halfway leader Daniel Brown. Syme, who has had three second-placed finishes on the DP World Tour but has still not tasted victory at this level, said: "I'm really pleased. I putted really nicely today. It's always tricky in that breeze to do that, judging your pace from distance and stuff like that."

Sullivan's sparkling scorecard

Sullivan was in a class of his own on Saturday as the only player to keep his card clean. The Englishman signed for a flawless 66, which contained two eagles and two birdies, to reach nine under and sit two shots off the lead ahead of the fourth round. He said: "I've been making quite a few bogeys the first few days so it was just nice to cut them out today. Going round bogey-free is very satisfying on a Saturday to get myself in the mix."

Brown fights back

Englishman Brown began the day with a three-shot cushion which was reduced to one stroke at the turn, before three bogeys in the first four holes of his back nine dropped him back to eight under. He staged a remarkable fightback, though, producing back-to-back birdies at the 14th and 15th before finishing his round with a birdie from eight feet at the last to sign for a level-par 72 and regain a share of the lead.

Ravetto's birdie blitz

David Ravetto started his third round with a bogey at the first but bounced back in style, notching four birdies in a row from the fourth to storm into contention. After back-to-back pars on the eighth and ninth, the Frenchman made it six birdies in eight holes as he poured in putts from 12 and ten feet respectively at the tenth and 11th. After a bogey at the 17th, he heads into the final round on eight under.
