Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed - Day two digest

Sebastian Söderberg stayed ahead, Scott Jamieson and Julien Guerrier made big moves, Linn Grant fought back and Ellinor Sudow was chasing the ace on day two of the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed.

Söderberg extends home advantage

Home favourite Söderberg stayed bogey-free through 36 holes to put himself in a commanding position heading into the weekend. The Swede is in sensational form, having finished second, second and third, and made the cut at the US PGA Championship in his last four starts. He opened with a 63 and a second-round 66 moved him to 15 under, three shots clear of Jamieson. The Scot carded a 65 to sit a shot ahead of Frenchman Guerrier, with 2022 champion Grant the leading female player in the group at nine under alongside fellow Swedes Jens Dantorp and Jesper Svensson and Spaniard Jorge Campillo.

Pulling each other along

Guerrier and Jamieson put on quite the show in their group, playing a combined 15 under. Söderberg was six ahead after the morning wave had finished but the playing partners set about trying to reel him in as Jamieson got within two shots before bogeying his final hole. Guerrier went one better with a 64 that was the lowest round of the day and the duo will go out in the final two groups on Saturday.

Gutsy Grant right in the mix

This week's event sees 78 men and 78 women play in the same groups for one prize fund and one trophy, with Grant lifting the silverware two years ago after romping to a nine-shot victory. Her chances of a second crown looked to be fading when she made three bogeys in a row from the fifth to slip two over for the day but she responded with a hat-trick of gains and added three more in a 68. "It was an up and down day, but I managed to collect myself after those three bogeys and just see the positives and I said to (caddie and brother) Jonathan if we can make five birdies going in, it would still be a good day," she said.

A perfect shot

Speaking of comebacks, home hero Sudow has had a contrasting couple of days to say the least. On Thursday she carded a 79 to effectively play herself out of the tournament but on Friday went 11 shots better, making a hole-in-one on the 14th in the process when she holed an eight iron from 161 yards. That was not enough to make the cut but she will not be forgetting her time in Helsingborg for a while.

OK, it wouldn't have been a hole-in-one, but Matthew Jordan couldn't have done much better here.
