Hainan Classic: Fantasy DP World Tour ones to watch

With the Hainan Classic marking the climax of the Asian Swing, don’t miss out on the chance to compete against golf fans from around the world in the DP World Tour’s official Fantasy game.

Hainan Classic Hero 16x9

From Shanghai, we head to Hainan for the second of back-to-back events in in China as a field of DP World Tour and China Tour players gather at Mission Hills Haikou.

The third of the DP World Tour's five Global swings comes to a close this week and there is plenty on the line for those in the field this week.

All Race to Dubai points earned across the Porsche Singapore Classic, Hero Indian Open and Volvo China Open have counted towards the Asian Swing Rankings and this week we will crown a winner. The player who finishes top will earn a place in all events in Phase Two of the DP World Tour season, the Back 9, and a US$200,000 bonus.

The players who finish first to third only in the Swing will also earn a spot in the field for the season's second Major, the US PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club from May 15-18.

There is also a spot available at the Genesis Scottish Open - the second Rolex Series event of the season - for the highest-ranked player in the Rankings not already exempt.

From insight into the week’s most-picked players among Fantasy managers, to our ones to watch, we run the rule ahead of Thursday’s deadline to pick your team.

Who are the most backed players?

For the second week running, Haotong Li is the early favourite with our players, featuring in over 77% of teams.

There is then little to seperate Denmark's Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen and Spain's Eugenio Chacarra, who round out to the top three at around the 59% mark.

Joost Luiten and Matthew Jordan - who have four top tens between them so far this season - are fourth and fifth, featuring in 44% and 39% of teams respectively.

Who are our ones to watch?

Here, we pick out three players in action this week who are worth considering for your Fantasy team selections.

        Favourite - Haotong Li

While it is still early days in the season, bookies' favourite Li is well placed to achieve his best ever finish on the DP World Tour's Race to Dubai. His tie for fourth last week at the Volvo China Open saw him climb inside the top ten on the season-long standings, moving to ninth - his previous best finish. After enduring a difficult campaign in 2023, the fun-spirited competitor has returned to somewhere near his best form. He won his fourth DP World Tour title in Qatar in February, and he is yet to miss a cut so far this season across his eight appearances, with back-to-back top tens to his name ahead of his latest chance to impress on home soil. Could we see a Chinese player win on home soil for the second week running?

        Form Horse - Eugenio Chacarra

While it may be a small sample size, Chacarra is unquestionably a man in form. Since finishing in a tie for 20th at the Magical Kenya Open presented by absa on an invite during the International Swing, the Spaniard has won his maiden DP World Tour title at the Hero Indian Open - earning exempt status through to the end of next season in the process - and backed it up with a top five at the Volvo China Open last week. Those three results have seen the 25-year-old Oklahoma State graduate rise from outside the top 300 on the Official World Golf Ranking to 145th ahead of the second of back-to-back events in China. And with him second on the Asian Swing Rankings, he is handily placed to claim one of the three spots on offer into next month’s US PGA Championship, so there is plenty of incentive to continue his momentum.

        Wild Card - Ricardo Gouveia

When we come to a new course, you inevitably look for past form at venues nearby and the Portuguese has a record of recent success in that regard. A player of vast experience, he won his seventh HotelPlanner Tour title at the Hainan Open in 2023 on his way to earning his place back on the DP World Tour. After making only 11 cuts heading into the final regular event of the season in South Korea last year, he came into the Genesis Championship in a precarious 154th on the Race to Dubai Rankings but he produced a fine performance under pressure in South Korea to secure the top five finish he required to seal another year on Tour. Now into his seventh full season on the DP World Tour, the 33-year-old has found some consistency in recent weeks with two top 20s in his last three starts so is one to watch out for.

Looking back - Volvo China Open

In the first of a double header in China, Ashun won the Volvo China Open for the second time in his career. Coming into the week without full playing rights on the DP World Tour, the Chinese star featured in just 3.26% of teams but those who did pick him collected 203 points. He was captain for just 0.16% of players, equating to 31 picks.

Our Favourite Rasmus Neergard-Petersen continued his strong start to his rookie season as he finished in a tie for tenth, but our Form Horse Keita Nakajima and Wild Card Jin Zihao both missed the cut.
