Everything you need to know from the first round at Oakmont Country Club.
Records were equalled and broken as the 2025 U.S. Open got under way on Thursday.
Here is everything you need to know from the first round at Oakmont Country Club.
Lowry makes history
Never before had Oakmont's third hole seen an eagle two at the U.S. Open until Shane Lowry showed up on day one. His sensational approach took a few hops on the green before slowing right down and trickling into the hole, sparking huge roars from the crowds following the popular Irishman, who did not realise it had gone in until he heard the reaction.

Spaun leads after spotless 66
American JJ Spaun made an outstanding start to the week, firing four birdies in a rare bogey-free 66 to tie the lowest first-round score in a U.S. Open at Oakmont. All four of his birdies came on his front nine, at the tenth, 12th, 16th and 17th. He said: "I kind of came out here with no prior history at Oakmont, not really knowing what to expect even U.S. Open-wise. This is only my second one. I don't know if that freed me up in any aspect, but I just tried to kind of take what the course gave me. I hit a lot of good shots and tried to capitalise on any birdie opportunities, which aren't very many out here. But I scrambled really well too, which is a huge component to playing well at a U.S. Open, let alone shooting a bogey-free round. I'm just overly pleased with how I started the tournament."
Hovland's birdie burst
Viktor Hovland found himself three over par inside five holes following a series of early bogeys but got the shots back courtesy of a hat-trick of gains around the turn. After picking up shots on the ninth and tenth, he threw a dart at the 11th to set up a tap-in birdie for three in a row.

Kruyswijk enjoys the little wins
Getting a birdie at Oakmont is easier said than done, as U.S. Open debutant Jacques Kruyswijk found out on Thursday. Sitting four over par after failing to pick up a shot in his first 15 holes, the South African finally landed a birdie with his slippery putt at the seventh - and he celebrated in style.
A completely appropriate reaction to your first U.S. Open birdie!

Reed lands big bird
American Patrick Reed made just the fourth albatross in U.S. Open history thanks to this absolute beauty at the par-five fourth. Like Lowry, he had no idea it had found the hole until the crowd went wild. What a shot...
