Everything you need to know from the second round at Oakmont Country Club.
The host course continued to show its teeth, while we saw some unbelievable hole-outs on day two of the 2025 U.S. Open.
Here is everything you need to know from the second round at Oakmont Country Club.
Burns takes over at the top
Sam Burns took a narrow lead into the weekend after posting a stunning second-round 65 to reach three under par. American Burns banished the memory of dropping five shots in the final four holes of his first round as he carded six birdies and a single bogey on Friday to open up a one-stroke advantage over round-one leader JJ Spaun at the halfway stage. Viktor Hovland was the only other player under par after 36 holes.
Perez makes amazing ace
Victor Perez was able to celebrate a victory over the tricky host course on Friday as he made a rare hole-in-one at the par-three sixth. The Frenchman struck an arrow-like seven iron straight towards the pin, with his ball pitching around 15 feet short and then bouncing three times before rolling into the hole. The moment of brilliance was met by loud roars from fans behind the green and back on the tee, with Perez chest-bumping his caddie James Erkenbeck. It is just the second recorded hole-in-one to ever be made in a U.S. Open at Oakmont, after Scott Simpson got an ace at the 16th in 1983. Perez said: "Really good, really happy and it's obviously a huge bonus."

Check out this incredible shot from Tyrrell Hatton at the 12th. He used the contours brilliantly to secure himself an unlikely three at the par five. And just look at that reaction...

Thomas Detry also didn't require his putter as he holed out from the 14th fairway for an eagle, with his approach bouncing twice before diving into the hole...

McIlroy saves his best until last
Starting the day on four over par, Rory McIlroy gave himself a mountain to climb after making two early double bogeys in round two. But he hung in there, notching birdies at the ninth and 15th, with a bogey on the 11th in between, before finishing with a five-foot birdie at the last to get to six over and punch his ticket to the weekend.
Bob shows short-game skills
When Robert MacIntyre was faced with a short-range chip from the rough around the 12th green, you just had a feeling the talented Scot was going to hole it. And he duly did.
