Ashun Wu: What’s in the bag?

We take a look in the bag of Volvo China Open winner Ashun Wu.

The Volvo China Open will forever hold fond memories for Ashun Wu. It is the event where he made his DP World Tour debut in 2008, won his maiden DP World Tour title, and on Sunday where he returned to the winner’s circle after a three-year absence.

In golf, like so many sports, technological advancements are resulting in frequent releases of new equipment, but that doesn’t stop a player sticking to their tried and tested.

Just like for his DP World Tour debut 27 years ago, Wu had one piece of kit in his bag that has stood the test of time – an Odyssey, White Hot OG 7 putter.

While he has tried a different putter every now and then, this is the one that he keeps coming back to, using it for the majority of every season he has played on the DP World Tour over the last three decades.

With this now the fifth DP World Tour title he has claimed with its use, it’s hard to imagine he will be in the market for a new one any time soon.

Wu, who was making his 236th DP World Tour start, is known as someone who doesn’t make big switches in equipment, but he did make a couple of changes ahead of his national open.

For his victory at Enhance Anting Golf Club, he changed his driver shaft from Mitsubishi Chemical Tensei 1k Blue 60-X to Fujikura Ventus TR Black 6-X and switched from a Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max 15 degree three-wood to 15 degree TaylorMade Qi35 three-wood since his last DP World Tour start at the Magical Kenya Open presented by absa in March.

With full playing privileges now regained after narrowly losing them at the end of last season, let’s see whether China’s most successful golfer on the DP World Tour opts for any further tweaks in his set-up as the campaign continues.
