Bahrain Championship presented by Bapco Energies - Day three digest

Dylan Frittelli moved ahead, Ockie Strydom was loving the short stick, sand was no issue for Matthew Jordan and the ball did not want to find its home in round three of the Bahrain Championship presented by Bapco Energies.

Here is everything you need to know from day three at Royal Golf Club.

Frittelli moves clear

Frittelli matched the lowest round of the day with a 69 to take a two-shot lead into the final round. The South African entered the weekend with a share of the lead and while it was not quite as windy as it had been on day two, there were still testing conditions for the field at Royal Golf Club. That showed in the early stages as the lead moved backwards but Frittelli made a hat-trick of birdies around the turn and forged ahead, moving to 12 under and clear of countryman Ockie Strydom. Strydom also carded a 69 to sit at ten under, one clear of Swede Jesper Svensson who signed for a 72, with seven players then five shots off the lead. “The main thing is just to be aggressive,” said Frittelli. “It’s easy to get conservative when the wind is blowing and lay up and hit some soft shots but I’m just going to try and make as many birdies as I can tomorrow. One shot clear I’ll try and make it two and if I’m two shots clear I’ll try and make it three, that’s the goal and my mindset tomorrow.”

Styrdom putting his best foot forward

Strydom matched his countryman's round to get himself right in contention for a third DP World Tour win and he put much of his play down to a new piece of kit. “I’ve got a new putter in the bag which I put in this week," he said. "The old one wasn’t working! But I’ve got some confidence with this one and its rolling nicely – I’m starting it on line and judging the pace to perfection so I’m pleased with it." Svensson happy to be in the mix

This may be just Svensson's tenth DP World Tour event but the European Challenge Tour graduate is already getting used to the rarified air at the top of the leaderboard. He held the lead after 36 holes of the Investec South African Open Championship and entered the final round just two shots off the lead before finishing in a share of second. He now enters Sunday three back and in the final group and is relishing the big stage. "It was great fun being in the last group on a Saturday in South Africa," he said. "It’s always nice being in contention, that’s why we play. Just very happy to be in this position. It would be massive [to win]. It is everyone’s dream to win out here. That’s the goal, that’s what I’m going to try and do tomorrow.”

Sand? What sand?

We may be in the desert but Jordan is having no issue with the local terrain.
