Bernd Wiesberger was thrilled to return to form with a brilliant 64 as he surged into contention on home soil at the 2026 Austrian Alpine Open presented by Kitzbühel Tirol.
The Austrian is no stranger to the winner's enclosure, winning nine times on the DP World Tour, including at his home Open in 2012.
He was frustrated with his second-round 69 on Friday, but he improved by five shots on Moving Day thanks to seven birdies and a bogey to sit four adrift of leader Kato Kaneko at Golfclub Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith.
"I had a good reset, took my mind off golf a little bit yesterday afternoon," Wiesberger said. "I had a good warm-up session and felt a lot more relaxed and better on the greens.
"Got a few breaks in between which was nice, but all in all, it was a little bit more calmer and relaxed and let things happen rather than force them so that's what I tried to do today and got rewarded a lot of times.
"It's nice to play in front of a home crowd, show off a little bit with good shots and roll in the odd long putt and that happened today.
"There is a lot of support for us out here for the three remaining and even though we have some weather coming in, hopefully we will still see a lot of support tomorrow."
Wiesberger admitted it would be "nice to round it off at home" and reach double figures in victories.
He added: "A long way to go, but it's always a nice to win a golf tournament and even more so at home.
"It would be my tenth, that would be nice to round it off at home, but first I've got to play a really good round of golf and see how the other guys go."
