Joshua Berry is looking to strengthen his promotion chances when he tees it up in the Swiss Challenge at Golf Sempach this week.
The Englishman has enjoyed a fast start to the season and sits third in the Road to Mallorca Rankings following a breakthrough win in the Kolkata Challenge back in March.
Berry has also recorded two top ten finishes on the DP World Tour since the turn of the year, and despite missing the cut in his last two HotelPlanner Tour outings, feels optimistic about his chances heading into a new week.
“One of the great things about golf is you are always trying to search to get better and I think the last few weeks the small margins haven’t gone my way,” he said.
“Last week I felt like I played pretty well so I’m feeling good and hopefully some good results will follow. I’m always working hard to try to get better.
“The course here is great. There are some great views and the course is soft. It’s going to be important to hit fairways to give myself the best chance heading into the greens.
“It’s quite a long test as well so I’ve got to make sure my body is okay. I’d say it suits my eye too.”
Berry came through Final Stage Qualifying School for the second successive year in 2024 and began 2025 knowing that opportunities to play on both the DP World Tour and HotelPlanner Tour would come this season.
The 20-year-old, having initially mixed his time across both tours, shifted his focus to play solely on the HotelPlanner Tour following his maiden win in India, and now has a clear goal of achieving promotion to golf’s Global Tour come November.
“I made a big decision about a month ago that I was going to stick to the HotelPlanner Tour, especially following the recent success I had in India,” he added.
“I over-played last year but learned so many things and it’s put me in good stead for this year. It was a tough decision, and it takes quite a lot of discipline, but I think being able to focus on one Tour will be a lot easier.
“I know I want to be in the top 20 at the end of the year, and I’m working hard to give myself the best chance to do that.”
Berry is part of a strong field in Lucerne that includes Road to Mallorca Number Two, Renato Paratore, and DP World Tour winners James Morrison, Adri Arnaus and Tom Lewis.
The first round of the Swiss Challenge gets under way on Thursday at 7:40am local time, with Berry teeing off alongside home favourite Jeremy Freiburghaus and Dane Jonathan Gøth-Rasmussen at 12:45pm.
