Brown breaks course record in Beijing

Mark Brown raced up the third round leaderboard at the Volvo China Open after the New Zealander broke the course record at Beijing CBD International GC with a superb seven-under-par 65.

Starting the day four over, Brown's third round gathered momentum with birdies at the fourth and fifth before another at the ninth saw him reach the turn in 32.

The 34 year old picked up further shots at the tenth, 11th, 14th and 17th to move within three strokes of overnight leader Choi Ho-sung at three-under following his bogey-free effort.

Nick Dougherty, who shot a second round 79, began his third round in encouraging fashion as two birdies on the front nine and another at the tenth saw the Englishman back to level par for the tournament.

However, a bogey six at the 13th curbed his progress and another dropped shot at the 14th threatened to undo his good work.

Colin Montgomerie made a solid start with six pars before a bogey at the seventh saw him drift to three over

Defending champion Damien McGrane, meanwhile, slipped to five over thanks to a bogey five at the fifth and sixth before the Irishman dropped another shot at the eighth.
