Rafa Cabrera Bello insisted he was going to focus on the positives after matching his lowest European Tour round of the season on day two of the 2021 Acciona Open de España presented by Madrid.
The home favourite followed an opening 67 with a 65 to move to ten under as he looks for a first win since claiming his maiden Rolex Series title at the 2017 Scottish Open.
Cabrera Bello also carded a 65 at the Gran Canaria Lopesan Open in April as he played host but the last time he went that low before that was in the second round of this event two years ago.
He finished second that week as he moved to 34th in the Official World Golf Ranking but has since fallen to 231st in what he himself has called a "hard two years".
But the 37-year-old entered this week feeling his game was getting back to where he wanted it to be, and his bogey free effort at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid suggests his confidence is merited.
I'm not going to dwell on what happens on the course, just focus on the positives and let it take care of itself
"I'm very happy, very pleased with it," he said. "I felt I played good, I gave myself lots of chances, I drove it better today which was something that I wanted to do.
"I had a couple of loose swings but overall the game was good. I gave myself lots of opportunities and some dropped and some didn't. Overall, I'm very pleased with six birdies and no bogeys.
"I'm trying not to pay too much attention to my mistakes. I think that's what I haven't been doing great over the last couple of years.
"After every round I've been focusing too much on what I did wrong as opposed to just getting more energy from the positives.
"I'm not dwelling, I go and do my practice routine like always and as long as it feels good on practice, I'm not going to dwell on what happens on the course, just focus on the positives and let it take care of itself."
