(Reuters) US Open Champion Angel Cabrera, who has not competed since last month's success in Oakmont, says he will not be fazed by the bad weather expected to affect this week's Smurfit Kappa European Open.
The event will be played over the testing Smurfit Course at The K Club in County Kildare rather than the Palmer Course that hosted last year's Ryder Cup.
"I have been 11 years on The European Tour, so I don't think it's going to be a complication for me," Argentine Cabrera said.
"Every one knows the climate is like this. It is no good for anyone but the same for everybody."
The Oakmont champion is ready to get back to work after a fortnight of motorcades and celebrating.
He is optimistic of success, particularly in his next Major bid, The Open later this month.
"Winning the US Open has taken a major burden from me," Cabrera said, "I'm going to go to The Open with one less backpack, so it's going to make it easier for me."
World Number Ten Padraig Harrington, who is looking for a home double after winning the Irish Open in May, believes the expected poor weather will improve his chances.
"In terms of competing I've got to think that it's (the bad weather) in my favour," Harrington said.
"You could talk to 25 per cent of the field who give themselves absolutely no chance because of the conditions and another 25 per cent as soon as they've had a few bogeys."
The Smurfit Kappa European Open marks another comeback by England's David Howell after further injury woes, this time an injured wrist that, following back problems, has cost him ten weeks away from tournaments since the Masters.
