The event features a field of PGA TOUR and DP World Tour members as part of the Strategic Alliance between both tours, with 50 DP World Tour members, featuring a mix of seasoned stars and emerging talent from the HotelPlanner Tour and Qualifying School, teeing it up.

England's Callum Shinkwin was the best of them in a tie for second, sitting aslongside Germany's Thomas Rosenmeuller and American Peter Malnati.

Kim kickstarted his round with a spectacular eagle from the fairway at the par-four fourth and never looked back, adding birdies at the fifth, seventh, eighth, tenth, 13th, 15th and 17th.

"When you shoot nine under, I would think that everything really went well," he said. "If I had to be extremely picky I guess I could have made a couple more putts.

"But I was talking to my caddie, Matt, and our goal was just to hit all 18 greens today and give ourselves a chance and the hole-out definitely kickstarted the morning. I'm really proud of how I played today."

Shinkwin had a hole-out eagle of his own, finding the bottom of the cup from 107 yards at the par-four 12th and he added further gains at the 14th, fourth and eighth in a 65.

"I didn't make any mistakes, which is obviously key," he said. "It's very easy to lose concentration in the heat and I managed to do that very well and not make any mistakes. So that was the key, not making any mistakes.

"The game's been very good for the last five, six weeks and the results haven't been there.

"But normally travelling to America, my body doesn't like it. I've had treatment since I've been here and the game's in good shape anyway so that helps."

Spaniard Angel Ayora, Americans Troy Merritt, Steven Fisk and Kevin Kisner and Chilean Cristobal Del Solar were five shots off the lead.
