After growing up playing the game where the elements are known to be a challenge, it was perhaps no surprise that Connor Syme should make his breakthrough on the DP World Tour in tough conditions.

In his 182nd appearance, eight years after securing a debut season in 2017 through Qualifying School, the Scot withstood strong winds and heavy rain showers to win his first DP World Tour title at the KLM Open.

Syme and Joakim Lagergren of Sweden were a class apart from the rest of the field over The International, with a closing 70 to back up an impressive 66 on Saturday helping the former to a two-shot victory.

A Ping player since he joined the DP World Tour, Syme - who was holding a 54-hole lead in an event for the third time - adjusted his bag for the week by bringing in a Ping I Crossover three iron for his G440 Max seven wood in readiness for the windy conditions.

Born in Kirkcaldy, the 2014 Amateur Championship medallist showcased his talent to drop just a single shot over the final 36 holes in Amsterdam and land a triumph worth $381,214.

"Every part of my team is so, so important, I've been playing on them,” said Syme, who is coached by his father.

“Different shots I've played as a kid, that was the kind of feeling it was today and just everyone helped so much.

"I'm buzzing I've done it with (caddie) Ryan (McGuigan) on the bag as well, I'm just overjoyed."

Syme, who has reached the season finale in Dubai in each of the last three years, came into the week with one top ten to his name so far on the 2025 Race to Dubai at the Joburg Open.

Ahead of the Dubai Desert Classic, he switched into the new Ping G440 LST driver, and new Ping G440 Max three and seven wood and has stuck with them since, occasionally replacing his seven wood for the three iron like last week.
