Olympians Nicolai Højgaard and Thorbjørn Olesen are among a host of stars excited to return to home soil later next week when they tee it up at the Danish Golf Championship.
The pair, who have also represented Europe at the Ryder Cup, join what promises to be a strong Danish contingent at Lübker Golf Resort, following on from their impressive performances in the Men’s Olympic Golf Competition at Le Golf National in Paris.
They both ended the week inside the top 15, with Højgaard finishing seventh after firing a course-record equalling nine under par 62 during the third round, with Olesen coming in a respectable 14th place.
Olesen and Højgaard will go head-to-head with defending champion and Nicolai’s twin brother Rasmus, who became the first Danish winner in the history of the event, formerly known as Made in HimmerLand.
“I’m very excited to get back to Denmark to compete in the Danish Golf Championship,” said Nicolai Højgaard. “It was very special seeing Rasmus become the first home winner of the event last year, but I would love to get one over him this time around and lift the trophy myself.”
Olesen, who has played in every edition of the event thus far, added: “It’s always special having the opportunity to play on home soil. The crowds are really up for the week and we get so much support from them.”
Currently enjoying his best season to date on the DP World Tour and also competing at Lübker Golf Resort will be Niklas Norgaard, who occupies 38th spot on the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex. He is on course to beat his previous best finishing position of 77th on the season long standings after a consistent campaign.
Joining him will be DP World Tour winners Jeff Winther and Søren Kjeldsen, who recently became the fourth player in the Tour’s history to reach the remarkable milestone of 700 appearances.
Also teeing it up on home soil will be Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, who currently leads the European Challenge Tour’s Road to Mallorca Rankings and is set to earn a DP World Tour card for 2025.
The 25-year-old has been in great form on Europe’s developmental circuit, winning twice in the space of three starts earlier in the year at the Kolkata Challenge and UAE Challenge and recording four further top ten finishes. Hamish Brown, who is currently third on the Rankings and also a winner this season, is also competing in the event.
Jacob Skov Olesen, who made history after becoming the first Danish winner of the Amateur Championship earlier this year, will be making his DP World Tour debut just a few weeks after competing in The 152nd Open Championship, where he made the cut. The youngster also has his sights on earning a DP World Tour card via the Global Amateur Pathway, where he is currently second on the Rankings.
Thomas Bjørn, who is serving as the Tournament Chairman for this year’s event, spoke of his pride in anticipation of seeing a strong group of Danish competitors at the tournament.
“I’m incredibly proud of the talent that Denmark has produced in recent years and we are set for a thrilling Danish Golf Championship,” said Bjørn. “There are established DP World Tour stars and some very exciting youngsters to watch out for at Lübker Golf Resort and it just goes to show how healthy the professional game is in our country.
“Of course we are very proud of Rasmus and his achievement last year and we would love nothing more than seeing another Danish winner on home soil.”
