Day four digest: 2022 WGC - Dell Technologies Match Play

Everything you need to know from the first two knockout rounds in Texas.

Dustin Johnson and Richard Bland

The final four was formed, brilliant Blandy took his bow, Kevin continued his love affair and Brooks was being Brooks on day four of the 2022 WGC - Dell Technologies Match Play.

Here is everything you need to know from Saturday at Austin Country Club.

Scheffler on target for top spot

Scottie Scheffler is two matches away from becoming World Number One after moving into the semi-finals. The American entered the week as the fifth seed but should he go one better than last year's defeat in the final, he will replace Jon Rahm at the top of the Official World Golf Ranking. First though, he will have to beat former World Number One Dustin Johnson, with Austin Country Club specialist Kevin Kisner taking on Canada's Corey Conners in the other semi-final. Scheffler was a 3 & 2 winner over Irishman Seamus Power in the quarter-finals, while Johnson beat Brooks Koepka 2 Up, Kisner took down Will Zalatoris 4 & 3 and Conners edged out Abraham Ancer 2 Up.

Bland takes positives from remarkable week

Richard Bland saw his run this week ended by Johnson in the last-16 but the 49-year-old was happy to leave Austin Country Club knowing he could mix it with the very best. After finishing All Square with former U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau and beating former World Number One Lee Westwood and 2021 winner on the US PGA Tour Talor Gooch in the group stages, Bland was left to face a man who has spent 135 weeks at the top of the Official World Golf Ranking. The Englishman fell 3 & 2 after being 2 Up early on and was delighted to go toe-to-toe with a player he called "arguably the best in the world". "I've learned that I can compete with these guys," he said. "How much longer I've got left doing that I don't know - hopefully a little while yet. When I play my way and the way I want to play I can give these guys a run for their money and I look forward to doing it again."

Kisner loves Austin Country Club

Kisner lost in the final at this event in 2018 and then won it 12 months later. In his last-16 tie this week, he was 3 Down with four to play against Adam Scott but won four holes in a row with the help of this eagle at the 16th.

Then against Zalatoris, he did this on the third.

Kisner has 21 wins from 28 matches in six appearances in Austin.

Ancer's incredible run

Ancer won his first match this week on the 17th and his next two went to the last. He needed just 12 holes to beat Collin Morikawa in the last-16 and in 65 holes over four matches he never trailed. A Conners birdie on the fifth in the quarter-finals saw his run end at 69. That is some going.

Scheffler gets some luck

How close was this to going in the water on the 13th?

Three holes later he made his own

Bad drive - terrible second - sublime third - birdie. Take a bow, Scottie.

Just the 442 yards

Behave Brooks.

He's not bad with the wedges either

Seriously Brooks, behave.
