Day two digest: Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters

Everything you need to know from day two at Real Club Valderrama.

Jon Rahm

Romain hit the front, Laurie went low, Fitz was doing Fitz things and Rahm bowed out in style in round two of the 2021 Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters.

Here is everything you need to know from Friday in Sotogrande.

Langasque leads the way

Consistency is key when you play a beast like Valderrama and Romain Langasque has had plenty of that over the first two days. The Frenchman carded a second consecutive 69 on Friday to get to four under and lead the way. Not bad for a man who had made two of ten cuts coming into this week. "I played really solid again today, like yesterday," he said. "My long game is very good - my driving is really good. I didn’t make many mistakes, that was the key for today. I stayed really patient and had a lot of pleasure. That was the most important thing."

Canter bucks the trend

We all know how tough Valderrama is but on Friday afternoon Laurie Canter played the par 35 in front nine in 30 blows. That is eight better than on day one and over a shot better than the field. He would sign for a brilliant 65 and heads into the weekend three under. That is all the more impressive considering he started this event 81-89 five ears ago.

Bunker wizardry from Fitzpatrick

Some go in, some don't, but they're all world class from Matt Fitzpatrick. Putting on a masterclass.

Rafa maybe didn't get the memo.....

On Fridays, we wear blue and green. He doesn't seem too bothered.

Roars for Rahm

The fans will not get to see Jon Rahm over the weekend but he gave them something to smile about on Friday. Not all birdies to move from nine over to eight under get a massive cheer - but not all golfers are the World Number One.
