DID YOU KNOW -  PORSCHE EUROPEAN OPEN

• The Porsche European Open returned to the European Tour in 2015 after a six year absence. The tournament was won by Thongchai Jaidee, who become the event’s oldest winner, aged 45 years and 323 days.

• The European Open was first played in 1978 at Walton Heath’s Old Course and won by Bobby Wadkins. This year is the 34th playing of the event.

• When Porsche first put their name to the European Open 12 months ago, the German company became the 19th different car company to be a title sponsor a European Tour event.

• The Hartl Resort, venue for the European Open, played host to a European Tour event for the first time in 2015. The Challenge Tour has visited the Resort between 2013-15.

• The Hartl Resort is the largest Golf Spa Resort in Europe with six golf courses.

• The course to be used for the Porsche European Open is the Beckenbauer Course, named after the German World Cup winner, Franz.

• In 2015 the he Porsche European Open was the sixth different European Tour event to be staged in Germany.

• Ernie Els is making his first appearance in the Porsche European Open since 1994, when he tied 14th.  The former Open Champion’s last European Tour victory was in Germany, at the 2013 BMW International Open.

• In the 2012 event the par three 12th hole witnessed three-holes-one. They were by Sergio Garcia and José Manuel Lara (both round one) and Graeme McDowell (round four). This was only the third time in European Tour history that the same hole witnessed three or more holes-in-one in the same tournament. The first two were at the  second hole (1991 Fujitsu Mediterranean Open), which had four aces and hole five at the 1990 PGA Championship, which saw three.
