DID YOU KNOW – US PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

• There are 56 European Tour Members competing in the final Major Championship of the season.

• Of those 56, nine are playing in the US PGA Championship for the first time. They are: Kristoffer Broberg, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Scott Hend, Andrew Johnson, Rikard Karlberg, Soomin Lee, Thomas Pieters, Brandon Stone and Jeunghun Wang.

• Jason Day will aim to become only the second player to successfully defend the US PGA Championship since the tournament reverted to stroke play in 1958. Tiger Woods is the only player since 1958 to win in back-to-back years, doing so in 1999-2000 and 2006-2007.

• The US PGA Championship is celebrating 100 years as a Major Championship this year. Jim Barnes won the first event at Siwanoy in 1916, beating Jock Hutchinson by one hole in the final.

• Keegan Bradley won the 2011 US PGA Championship in his first appearance in a Major Championship. He was the first player to win a Major Championship in their first appearance since Ben Curtis at the 2003 Open Championship.

• Baltursol’s Lower Course is playing host to its second US PGA Championship. Phil Mickelson won the 2005 event here beating Thomas Bjørn and Steve Elkington by a single stroke, to claim his second Major title.

• Due to inclement weather during the final round of the 2005 Championship at Baltursol had to be carried over until the following day. This was the last time the US PGA Championship finished on a Monday.

• Open Champion Henrik Stenson will be attempting to win back-to-back Major crowns. Should he prevail he would follow Nick Price (1994), Tiger Woods (2000 and 2006), Padraig Harrington (2008) and Rory McIlroy (2014), as players to win The Open Championship and US PGA Championship, in the same season, in the last 25 years.

• Should Stenson win the US PGA Championship be would become the second oldest player in Major history to win his first two Majors in the same season, aged 40. The oldest is Mark O’Meara, who was 41 in 1998 when he won the Masters Tournament and The Open Championship.

• Should a European Tour Member win the US PGA Championship, it would be their sixth triumph since 2008. The winners were: Padraig Harrington (2008), Y E Yang (2009), Martin Kaymer (2010) and Rory McIlroy (2012 and 2014).

• There are 12 European Tour Members who competed in the 2005 US PGA Championship at Baltusrol.

• The US PGA Championship takes place this year between July 28-31. This is the first time the US PGA Championship has not been played in August since 1971, when the event took place in February. That year it was the first Major of the year to be played as opposed to the last.
