• By claiming the title 12 months ago, Retief Goosen extended his record of consecutive winning years on The European Tour to nine, dating back to the 1999 season. This is the longest current streak of active European Tour players.

• Goosen defeated Nick O’Hern by one shot in 2007 courtesy of an eagle three on the 72nd green. This represented the last time a player won on The European Tour finishing this way.

• O’Hern’s second place finish was his seventh on The European Tour, creating a new record for the most runner-up finishes without a victory.

• Barry Lane will have the honour of playing in his 600th European Tour event in Qatar. He becomes only the fifth player to reach this landmark figure, following Sam Torrance (702), Roger Chapman (617), Eamonn Darcy (610) and Malcolm Mackenzie (603).

• The Commericalbank Qatar Masters  presented by Dolphin Energy holds the European Tour record for the fewest number of shots between the halfway leaders and the cut mark – just five in 2004. The 36 leaders were on 138 (-6), whilst the cut fell at 143 (-1).
