• The Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship of Europe is always seen as one of the strongest fields on The European. This year is no exception. Of the 156 strong field, there are six  Major Champions and 87 European Tour winners playing, who have collected nine Major Championships and 335 European Tour titles respectively.

• Six former champions are playing: Bernhard Langer (1983 and 95), Ian Woosnam (1986), Colin Montgomerie (1989), Lee Westwood (1998 and 2000), Padraig Harrington (2003) and Niclas Fasth (2005). Of those six, Langer (1995), Westwood (1998 and 2000), Harrington (2003) and Fasth (2005) have all won at Gut Kaden.

• Since 1977 the event has been played in four different countries; England, Scotland, Germany and Portugal. The English venues were: Foxhills (1977-78), Moor Park (1979), Moortown (1980), Notts (1982), St Mellion (1983-84)and  The Belfry (1986). Scotland: Dalmahoy (1981). Portugal: Quinta do Lago (1989-90). Germany: Gut Kaden (1995-98, 2000, 03, 05 and 06) and  St Leon-Rot (1999, 01-02). (The event was not played in 1985, 87-88, 91-94).

• American John Daly has enjoyed a fine European Tour record in Germany. The 1995 Open Champion, won the last of this three European Tour titles in Germany – the 2001 BMW International Open. He has played in nine previous European Tour events on German soil, winning once, runner-up twice and third once. The third place coming in 2005, at the Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship of Europe.
