• The last time a European Tour event witnessed a five hole play-off was the 1992 BMW International Open. Paul Azinger, the 1990 Champion, claimed his second title when he defeated Glen Day, Anders Forsbrand, Mark James and Bernhard Langer in extra time.
• When winning in 1992, Azinger became just the third player in European Tour history to win the same event for their first two European Tour victories. He followed: Tom Watson (1975, 77 Open Championship) and Greg Norman (1977, 79 Martini International) to achieve the feat.
• Langer is aiming to win the BMW International Open for the first time in his career – the only European Tour event staged in Germany he has not won. He has finished four times, in 1992, 95, 2000 and 2002. To date, Langer has won 11 European Tour International Schedule events on German soil.
