• Tiger Woods created a European Tour record by wining the tournament for a third consecutive season 12 months ago. He became the first player to win the same event for three consecutive years on two different occasions, having already won the event in 1999, 2000 and 2001, then in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
• Another record Woods claimed as a result of his victory saw him become the first player in European Tour history to win two different titles, six times, having won the World Golf Championships – CA Championship for the sixth time in March 2007.
• Should Geoff Ogilvy win at Firestone Country Club he will become the second player, after Woods to win all three WGC events, having previously claimed the WGC – Accenture Match Play in 2006 and the 2008 WGC – CA Championship.
• Eleven European Tour Members will be making their WGC – Bridgestone Invitational debut. They are: Mark Brown, Daniel Chopra, Richard Finch, Ross Fisher, Martin Kaymer, James Kingston, Pablo Larrazabal, Prayad Marksaeng, Scott Strange, Steve Webster and Oliver Wilson.
• Of those 11, Finch, Larrazabal, Marksaeng, Strange, Webster and Wilson will be experiencing a WGC event for the first time.
