Andrew Dodt made a solid start to his final round as he went in search of a third European Tour title at the Australian PGA Championship.
The home favourite was also looking to make it 18 consecutive Australian winners of the event and he came into round four with a two-shot lead over countryman Ashley Hall and American Harold Varner III.
That was reduced to one after three holes as Varner - who lost a play-off at RACV Royal Pines Resort last season - made an early birdie to get to 13 under and Dodt opened with three pars.
Hall also had a par-par-par start to remain at 12 under, with 2013 champion Adam Scott a further shot back after a birdie on his opening hole.
John Senden was then at ten under after a trio of pars, two shots clear of amateur Brett Coletta and Scotland's Stephen Gallacher.
Scott said after round three he thought there was a low one out there and he got off to the perfect start as he made a 25-foot putt for birdie on the first.
Dodt missed the green on his first two holes but managed to save par both times - almost chipping in on the first - with playing partners Hall and Varner also starting with pars on the first and second.
Scott then missed a golden opportunity to get a shot closer at the third but Varner managed it, putting a stunning approach to two feet to cut the lead to one shot.
Darius van Driel and Sam Brazel were at seven under.
