The inclusive nature of golf will be ever apparent through a series of planned activations at the Husqvarna British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo.
Later this month, across a packed-full agenda on August 24, EDGA will carry out three distinct coaching clinics during the lead up to the DP World Tour event at The Belfry Hotel & Resort.
Founded in 2000, EDGA now has a membership of 29 National Federations and is an international leading authority on inclusive golf.
Coaching players with a visual impairment
Teaming up with England & Wales Blind Golf, players with a visual impairment will receive coaching to help them to continue to reach their potential.
Like with many other disabilities, golf can empower players with partial or total loss of sight through a variety of ways: build personal confidence; enhance physical movement skills; provide an absorbing challenge; social opportunity; and mental and physical health benefits.
Ahead of the 2024 British Masters, Sir Nick Faldo and Danny Willett joined visually impaired golfers to learn how they overcome their disability to play golf. Click the video below to see how they got on.
Training volunteer guides for the future
EDGA will also train a number of ‘guides’ who help players with visual impairment around the golf course.
This is usually a volunteer position which relies on a high level of trust and excellent communication between the guide and player, including: alignment to targets, terrain assessment, weather conditions, positioning assistance for a player, distances and course management.
The opportunity to train guides to help golfers with a visual impairment can ensure more players in the future can enjoy their golfing journey.
Apart from gaining confidence in the training session, the players and guides will leave with practical training points.
Enhancing the game for players with limb difference
Through collaboration between EDGA and Limb Power, a UK national charity dedicated to help amputees, eight golfers who have limb difference will be welcomed for individual 30-iminute coaching sessions.
The players of varying ages all have prior golfing experience.
The coaching will take place on the practice range at The Belfry, with the potential for encounters with leading DP World Tour players as they begin their preparations for tournament week.
Mark Taylor, EDGA Head of Instruction & Education, said: “EDGA is really excited to be at the Husqvarna British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo, and be able to support a great group of golfers of all ages who are all looking to play their best golf.
"At EDGA we coach to help the individual function of each player to keep improving, play their best golf, and enjoy a life in the game.
“These activations wouldn’t be possible without being welcomed by the DP World Tour team, and it’s fantastic they can support these player activations during the week of the British Masters."
Further participation opportunities coming up
Thanks to the Tour’s support, EDGA will also be present at the Amgen Irish Open at Doonbeg in September, supporting new golfers with Down Syndrome, alongside the Clare Sports Partnership.
A week later, at the Rolex Series BMW PGA Championship, training with the team from Special Olympics Great Britain will take place at Wentworth Club.
