Ernie Els stormed into a share of the lead with Phil Mickelson midway through the final round at the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions on Sunday as World Number One Tiger Woods plummeted down the leaderboard.
Els reached the turn six under par courtesy of an eagle before a fifth birdie of the day at the tenth moved the South African alongside former champion Mickelson.
World Number Two Mickelson played his opening nine holes at Sheshan International Golf Club in level par to remain at 14 under par while Moore birdied the 11th to move into a share of the lead.
An out of sorts Woods, a two time runner up in Shanghai, shipped three shots over his front nine after missing several short putts to fall five shots off the pace after beginning the final round in second place and two adrift of overnight leader Mickelson, a shot clear of Ryan Moore.
Moore picked up two gains over his opening 10 holes to remain firmly in the hunt, with a storming Rory McIlroy and Nick Watney a further shot off the pace.
McIlroy had reached the turn in a brilliant six under 30 after carding seven birdies against a solitary bogey but the birdies for the Dubai Desert Classic winner dried up on the back nine until a gain at 14 pushed him to 12 under and on course for a substantial boost to his bid for The Race to Dubai.
Meanwhile, Japanese golfer Daisuke Maruyama, playing in only his second event on The European Tour, set a new course record after carding a sparkling nine under 63 with a round that yielded an eagle, eight birdies and just one bogey.
