Hidalgo shoots 'dream' 63 in front of bumper crowds

Home favourite Angel Hidalgo produced a masterclass on the greens on day two, holing a series of lengthy putts and pulling off some impressive par saves as he made eight birdies and no bogeys in his 63 to share the lead at the halfway stage. He said: "A 63 is a dream score and I’m so happy. The support was amazing. It’s the first time I’ve played with so many people following me. I was a bit nervous at times, but it was a great feeling."

Mansell reflects on childhood visit to Valderrama

Richard Mansell is experiencing his first tournament at Real Club Valderrama as a professional this week but he is no stranger to the venue, having played there aged 11 with his father. He is safely through to the weekend after following up Thursday's 73 with a second-round 67.

Lee's cool chip

A delicate touch was required as Min Woo Lee faced a chip from the rough around the tenth green, and he duly delivered, finding the middle of the hole from 12 yards. He made an eagle, three birdies and a single bogey on day two to grab a share of the lead on nine under.

No putter required for Paratore

Renato Paratore's approach from just off the eighth fairway was an absolute beauty. It took two hops on the green before diving into the cup at speed for a stunning eagle. What a shot!

Fisher thrilled to be through to the weekend

Ross Fisher couldn't hide his excitement after Friday's 66 saw him make a cut for the first time since August.
