Eugenio Chacarra takes five-shot lead into final round in India

Eugenio Chacarra stretched his lead to five shots ahead of the final round of the 2026 DP World India Championship after signing for a 63 on Sunday morning.

A near five-hour delay on day one at Delhi Golf Club left the tournament playing catch-up, with Chacarra returning on Sunday to finish the last seven holes of his third round.

And he hit the ground running, making three birdies and a closing eagle to reach 19 under par and move five shots clear of nearest challenger Daniel Hillier.

Chacarra also made good progress in his bid to top the Race to Dubai Rankings delivered by DP World ahead of the current season-long leader Patrick Reed, who made the cut right on the line at level par but ended Saturday six under after a superb third-round showing, and Rory McIlroy who was two over for his third round and four under for the tournament.

Round two was completed on Saturday morning following long weather delays earlier in the week, with Chacarra leading at that stage on 10 under par, one clear of Scott Jamieson, after a second successive 67. Five of his seven birdies came on Saturday morning, tempered by dropped shots at the ninth and 16th, as he played the final 13 holes of his round.

When the third round began McIlroy birdied the first, as Fleetwood had just before him, while Niklas Nørgaard followed suit at the second in a promising start for the chasing pack.

Shane Lowry, meanwhile, birdied four of the first six holes with the highlights being a 34-foot putt at the fourth and a stunning approach to the sixth. One dropped shot along the way, at the fifth, left him seven under - and 11 under for his last 19 holes at that point.

Back-to-back birdies to start Jacob Skov Olesen's round lifted the Dane to eight under, alongside Robert MacIntyre who birdied the first. McIlroy bogeyed the third, after finding a thick patch of rough off the tee, and the fourth from a greenside bunker.

Joost Luiten birdied the first to move within one of the lead, leaving his eagle putt just short. Jamieson opened with a birdie but his share of the lead lasted only until playing partner Chacarra followed him in from five feet.

Adrian Meronk joined Jamieson at ten under with a birdie-birdie start and then saved par at the next with a touch of genius, almost holing a short-sided chip from a hollow to the left of the green.

England's Dan Bradbury, starting from the tenth, made six birdies on the back nine to turn at eight under for the week.

McIlroy responded to a double-bogey at the sixth with a birdie at the next, then got a favourable bounce off a tree with his approach to the eighth to make par.

Chacarra birdied the fourth to move two clear, while Bradury's charge continued as birdies at the first and second made it a run of four in a row for the second time in his round. At ten under, he was sharing second with Meronk, Jamieson and Joel Girrbach.

Luiten, Angel Hidalgo and Hillier joined the logjam at ten under, though Meronk quickly broke out with a birdie at the sixth - soon matched by Chacarra.

The leader then moved three clear thanks to a 41-foot birdie putt at the seventh, where Jamieson - who had escaped with just a bogey after a wild chip at the fifth - hit the hole with his tee-shot before rolling in the putt for a deserved birdie.

Chacarra covered the front nine in 32 and had compatriot and playing partner Hidalgo as his nearest challenger after the latter holed from 20 feet for a birdie at the tenth.

Luiten birdied the 12th just as the hooter went for the end of play, ensuring he joined Hidalgo at 12 under par overnight.

McIlroy's day finished on a high, holing from a bunker to eagle the 14th. Reed had an eagle of his own when he holed out from just off the fourth fairway. The American had started his round with a bogey at the tenth but responded with three straight birdies and two more at the 18th and first.

Defending champion Tommy Fleetwood was the highest-placed of those to have finished their rounds at nine under, alongside Gregorio De Leo.

Fleetwood shot a bogey-free 68 while De Leo's 66 was crowned by an eagle at the eighth, his penultimate hole.

The Italian said: "I was very happy with it. Played pretty nicely. Didn't miss much off the tee. It was really nice, the eagle on the eighth. Hit a good two iron off the tee, I tried to hook a four iron just short of left of the green and chip it in. It was nice, yeah."

Bradbury and his playing partners Darius van Driel and David Law sprinted to complete their round before the stoppage and despite the Englishman's double-bogey at the last, which left him eight under, he hailed an "overall good day".

He said: "I got a little bit of momentum there, four in a row. Left a few putts there short at the end and didn't finish how we wanted, but it happens round this golf course.

"Literally we just sent Darius running from the eighth green to the ninth tee there to try and finish. Yeah, very, very helpful - that's an extra two, maybe three hours in bed. Played 28 holes today, need the rest tonight."
