European Tour Weekly - Jan 5, 2011

The European Tour remains in South Africa this week for the first tournament of 2011 as European Tour Weekly travels to the Eastern Cape for the Africa Open. ETW will be on the range at East London Golf Club to get the thoughts from the players on the eve of the event.

Africa Open

Last year Charl Schwartzel won the Africa Open, his fourth European Tour title, to set up his best season to date. Charl went on to finish the year eighth in The Race to Dubai and has started this campaign with top five finishes in both of the opening two events. In an exclusive interview Charl speaks to ETW about last year and his hopes for this week as the defending champion.

As always we shall take a look back at the most recent event on The European Tour. This week that means the final tournament of 2010 and a trip to Durban Country Club for one of the world’s oldest golf tournaments, the South African Open Championship.

Each year European Tour Weekly likes to highlight one of the newcomers on The European Tour. In 2011 we shall follow the fortunes of Floris De Vries. The 21 year-old gained his playing rights on The European Tour via the Challenge Tour last year, where he finished the season fourth in the rankings thanks to four top five finishes as well as victory at the Mugello Tuscany Open . In the interview he highlights the challenge which lies ahead as he embarks on his rookie season on The European Tour.

Together with all of the latest news and statistics from the Tour this completes another edition of European Tour Weekly.
