INTERESTING FACTS
The first two editions of the event proved a happy hunting ground for Italian golfers with Costantino Rocca winning in 1999 – the last of his five European Tour International Schedule victories. That was followed by Massimo Scarpa claiming the title in 2000 – his maiden European Tour win, in doing so Scarpa followed Baldovino Dassu (1976 Dunlop Masters, Italian Open), Massimo Mannelli (1980 Italian Open), Rocca (1993 Open V33 Du Grand Lyon, Peugeot Open de France, 1996 Volvo PGA Championship, 1997 Canon European Masters, 1999 West of Ireland Golf Classic) as Italian winners on The European Tour since 1972. The 2001 tournament also witnessed a first-timer winner in the shape of Tobias Dier. The German has since used the one year Tour exemption for winning the North West of Ireland Open as a platform to achieve more success, which arrived at this year’s TNT Open, in wire-to-wire fashion, in the process becoming only the ninth player to record a 60 on The European Tour International Schedule.
