INTERESTING FACTS
European Tour history was made at the rain-shortened 2001 tournament when Paul McGinley beat Paul Lawrie and Daren Lee in a play-off. The Irishman became the first winner of a European Tour event contested over 36 holes which was won in sudden-death. Welsh players have played a prominent role in the first three tournaments. Ian Woosnam was tied third in 2000, after leading going into the final round. Phillip Price was tied fifth. The following year, two new Welsh players came to the forefront, Mark Pilkington and Jamie Donaldson both finished tied fourth, whilst Bradley Dredge was the best home player last year, tying for ninth.
