Fahrbring and Levy share day one lead in Poland

Jens Fahrbring and Alexander Levy both posted seven under par rounds of 63 on the opening day of the Rosa Challenge Tour to take a two-stroke lead in Poland.

The duo made the most of calm afternoon conditions in Konopiska to move two clear of South African Bryce Easton, Swede Björn Åkesson, Dane Martin Simonsen and Norwegian Herman Wibe Sekne who share third on five under par.

Swede Fahrbring bounced back from a bogey at the second hole with an eagle at the par five third to move under par for the day.

The 40-year-old then fired five birdies in a six-hole stretch from the fifth hole, and despite a second blemish of the day on 13, made two more gains coming in to move into the lead.

“It was one of those days when you’re in the zone,” Fahrbring said. “You don’t really think about too much. You aim at the pin and look up and you see your ball straight at the pin.

“This course sets up for the longer hitters but it’s also important to be in the fairway, so I did that nicely, and then my iron game was really good.

“I didn’t start off great, but after I holed my third shot on the third hole for eagle, I played some really good golf.”

Frenchman Levy went bogey-free, carding two birdies on the front nine before adding five more on the back nine, including at the 18th, to move alongside Fahrbring on seven under par.

The 34-year-old, who sits seventh on the Road to Mallorca Rankings after recording six top ten finishes this season, was pleased with his mistake-free play on the opening day.

“It was a bit calm on the front nine but I played very good on the back nine,” he said.

“I had good momentum and I managed to keep it going, and that’s the most important thing in golf. When you feel free and have the momentum, you try to keep it and go as long as you can, so I’m pleased.

“I didn’t make mistakes and I’m proud of that. It’s not an easy golf course. I managed to put myself in good positions and I holed a few putts. It sounds simple but you just have to keep the ball in play.”

Six players share seventh place on four under par, including Northern Irishman Dermot McElroy, Spaniard Angel Ayora, Italian Aron Zemmer, Swiss Jeremy Freiburghaus, Finn Juuso Kahlos and Dane Hamish Brown.

Round two gets under way at 7:30am local time with Fahrbring teeing off alongside Spaniard Victor Garcia Broto and Dutchman Kiet van der Weele at 8:00am, and Levy off at 8:40am with Irishman Conor Purcell and Englishman Brandon Robinson Thompson.
