FedEx Open de France - Day three digest

Eugenio Chacarra went low, Edoardo Molinari played a hidden role and Matt Fitzpatrick was ready for a hostile crowd after day three of the 2026 FedEx Open de France.

Fitzpatrick turns the screw

Matt Fitzpatrick built a commanding five-shot lead over nearest challenger Tom Vaillant after a round of 65, with seven birdies to offset his first bogey of the week, and was in no mood to let up. "I feel like I'm in a position that if I go and shoot a good round tomorrow, then obviously it makes it almost impossible to catch," he said in his post-round interview. When it was put to him in his press conference that the Sunday crowd would again be supporting his French playing partner Vaillant, Fitzpatrick added: "Yeah, that's okay. They've been great fans so far so I appreciate the support. But, yeah, it will be a great day, and looking forward to it."

Stone draws on Dodo's knowledge

Edoardo Molinari's influence on Europe's Ryder Cup success under Captain Luke Donald is well known, with the Italian's statistical insights helping inform the team's strategy. Brandon Stone was happy to pick his playing partner's brains in the first two rounds and reaped the benefits on Moving Day with a 63 to surge into a share of third. "I had the pleasure of playing with Dodo Molinari the last couple days, and even yesterday, just awesome," Stone said after carding eight birdies and no bogeys. "'You're the stats guy: Why do I like this golf course so much?' And he gave me a few points. I was like, 'okay, that makes sense'. So then obviously took that with me through today."

Chacarra aiming high after low round

Eugenio Chacarra produced a birdie-eagle finish to shoot 62, the lowest round of the week so far, and move into contention alongside Stone on 13 under. The Spaniard proclaimed himself "happy with a good Moving Day" and, speaking before Fitzpatrick's final birdie at the 15th, he added: "Matt Fitzpatrick is playing great, and he's at 18 (under), so I'm kind of far away. I know he still has the last four holes to go so we don't know what's going to happen, if he's going to go lower or he's going to drop some. But tomorrow is the same thing, you know, try to go as low as possible, play my game, and see where that takes me at the end of the round."

Reitan finds a way

Kristoffer Reitan looked ready to call "fore right" on this approach to the 17th... only for his ball to kick in off the bank and wind up four feet from the hole.

Naidoo takes route one

"Pin's 20 on, four from the left..." - yes, just there Dylan Naidoo! This unconventional approach would set up a birdie at the 12th for the South African.

Relatable Rozner

Antoine Rozner had a good day tee-to-green but struggled to get his putter going. Amateurs everywhere could relate to his reaction after the 13th hole brought just his second birdie of the round.
