Katinka Dufour is hopeful she can inspire other women into pursuing positions in the game as a result of her role at the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed this week.
Dufour, the DP World Tour's Championship Director this week, is at the forefront of the third edition of the innovative Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed in Stockholm, which sees 78 men and 78 women compete at Ullna Golf & CC for the same title.
Being Swedish herself, Dufour admitted that it makes working as the Championship Director all the more exciting in an event co-sanctioned with the Ladies European Tour.
“I’m super excited to be involved in this event,” she said.
“Being Swedish its really special to be here during the Swedish summer. “
Elaborating on her responsibilities during the lead up to and during event week, Dufour hopes that seeing her in this position may help inspire more women to get into this side of the game.
“I’m responsible for everything that is happening in the lead up to the event and making sure it’s a successful delivery," she added. "I manage the relationships with the key holders, so this week especially with the Ladies European Tour. This mixed format is very unique and it feels very special.
“As a women in the position of Championship Director involved with the event, I really hope I can inspire some other women to take up positions which are predominantly male focused at the moment.”
Another of the female leaders on site this week is Ami Bullock, who is the Director of Golf Development at EDGA.
Bullock, who was one of the first women to complete the Women in Golf leadership programme run by The R&A, is here this week promoting inclusivity in the game alongside the G4D Tour. The G4D Tour @ Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed, which was won by Juan Postigo Arce, was the first event to include equal numbers of men and women competing on the G4D Tour.
On Monday, there was also a Women in Sport networking event which took place to bring together women working in the industry, and Bullock said that this event was the perfect stage for it.
“This event has been a great opportunity to network and meet some other amazing women that work in the golf industry, from all over the world in different sectors,” she said.
“The events here, and the mixed events on the Tour really help elevate female participation and give the LET players a platform that perhaps they wouldn’t have otherwise. It’s definitely changing the world for women working in golf, hugely.”
