Florioli one clear at Ballyliffin

Italy's Massimo Florioli takes a one shot lead into the final round of the North West of Ireland Open after overtaking compatriot Costantino Rocca after completing the third round this morning.

Players returned to the Glashedy Links at Ballyliffin Golf Club on a calm morning after the third round was delayed by winds of over 40 miles per hour the previous day.

Florioli, who resumed his round on the 12th, pulled clear with an eagle three on the 572 yard 13th hole, hitting a three wood to seven feet and converting the putt. He finished with a one under par 71 for a four under par total of 212.

Florioli, who is aiming to become the third Italian to win the title in four years after Rocca in 1999 and Massimo Scarpa in 2000, lies one stroke ahead of Sweden’s Adam Mednick, whose three under par 69 was the only sub-70 third round score.

Rocca remains in contention at two under par after a round of 74 but could have been closer to the lead but for a dropped shot on the 16th.

Ireland's Philip Walton, who sealed Europe's winning point in the 1995 Ryder Cup at Oak Hill, returned a 71 to move into a share of fourth place at even-par 216 alongside Frenchman Jean-Francois Lucquin.
