Fyfe extends Danish Golf Challenge lead

Calum Fyfe will take a three stroke lead into the final round of the Danish Golf Challenge after carding a four under par third round of 68 at Bogense Golf Club.

The Scotsman, who started the day two shots clear of Sweden’s Per Längfors, made five birdies and dropped one shot on moving day to get to 17 under par for the tournament. Fyfe will start the final round three shots clear of Denmark’s Jonathan Gøth-Rasmussen after he posted a six under par 66 to move into solo second.

After picking up shots on the second and ninth, Fyfe birdied the 11th and 12th to get to four under par for the day. Fyfe dropped his first shot on the par three 15th but bounced back immediately with a gain on the 16th.

Having endured a tough period personally after the passing of his mother, the 27-year-old was proud of his third round effort in Denmark.

“Back home I’ve been through a lot, I lost my mum a couple of weeks ago and I feel like she’s helped me out there a couple of times I’ve hit bad shots, and it went well,” he said.

“I always knew I had the game to compete on here, it was just about doing it.”

On a day when Sweden’s Christofer Blomstrand fired a course record ten under par 62 and Irishman Liam Nolan signed for a seven under par 65, the former Tartan Pro Tour man was pleased with how he stuck to his gameplan.

“I knew if I made bogeys then the guys were going to catch me,” he added. “My plan was to go for it whilst not taking silly risks. I played well and I would’ve taken it at the start of the day.”

“When I saw the weather at the start of the week, I knew I had a good chance here and thankfully I’ve taken it.”

Gøth-Rasmussen ends the third round on 14 under par, two shots clear of Blomstrand, Nolan and Dutchman Lars van Meijel. Czech Filip Mruzek and Längfors are at 11 under par, with Welshman James Ashfield, Frenchman Julien Sale and Danish pair Peter Launer Baek and Christoffer Bring at ten under par.

The final round of the Danish Golf Challenge gets underway tomorrow at 07:45am with Fyfe teeing off in the final group at 09:45am alongside Gøth-Rasmussen and Blomstrand.
