Genworth Stats Pack - Round 2 Review

Easier scoring conditions for Day 2 of the Trophée Hassan II produced a field average score of 72.25 for the second round (3.40 shots lower than Round 1). Marcel Siem kept his lead with a round of 68 while Mikko Ilonen, David Horsey and Pablo Larrazábal progressed to stay within touching distance. We analyse their tournament performances so far plus we round up the half way leaders of the Genworth Statistics.

Marcel SIEM -12

Marcel Siem has converted two eagles and twelve birdies over the first 36 holes for a 132 total and a three shot lead. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 32 year old German talent is performing well across the board, ranking 12th Driving Accuracy, 12th for Greens in Regulation, 7th for Putts per GIR and 5th for Putts per Round. He ranks 1st for both the Par 4 Scoring and the Par 5 Scoring (in doing so hitting 4/8 Par 5 greens in sub-regulation two shots) and he is looking good going into the weekend.

Mikko ILONEN -9

Mikko Ilonen produced an eagle, seven birdies, a bogey and a double bogey during his second round of 66 (quite a mixed bag), placing him tied second at the half way stage. The 33 year old golfer from Finland and two-time winner on the European Tour ranks 5th for Driving Distance, 2nd for Putts per GIR and 2nd for Putts per Round, and he is scoring very well across the different hole types (being the Par 3’s, Par 4’s and Par 5’s).

David HORSEY -9

David Horsey has birdied 9/10 of the Par 5 holes to rank 1st for Par 5 Scoring with a 4.20 average (outstanding considering he is an average length driver of the ball for tour standards). The 27 year old English golfer is performing solidly from the tee but his short game has been exceptional. He ranks 3rd for Scrambles, 1st for Sand Saves, 5th for Putts per GIR, 1st for Putts per Round and 1st for 1 Putts per Round (converting 21 single putts over the first 36 holes).

Ambassador

Pablo LARRAZÁBAL -8

Genworth Ambassador Pablo Larrazábal hit 16 greens in regulation on route to shooting the lowest round of the day (a 64 which included ten birdies and two bogeys). The 29 year old Spanish golfer is also ranking high for the Genworth Putting Statistics at the half way stage, which seems to be the key ingredient for good scoring this week. If he can improve just a little on the Par 4 holes over the weekend he is likely to be in the hunt come Sunday.
