Genworth Stats Pack - Round 3 Review

Round 3 of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship produced 125 sub-par rounds with field averages of 68.25 at St Andrews, 71.40 at Carnoustie and 68.54 at Kingsbarns. Peter Uihlein leads on -20 with Luiten, Howell, Els, McEvoy, Kaymer and Lowry following on -18. We analyse their performances and round up the Genworth Statistics leaders.

Peter UIHLEIN -20

Peter Uihlein converted one eagle and seven birdies against two bogeys on his way to a third round 65 at St Andrews, to lead by two going into Sunday. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 24 year old talent from the United States is driving the ball miles and hitting lots of Greens in Regulation, plus he has also hit five of the Par 5 greens in sub-regulation two shots as well. Some great putting on top of the big long game has led to an overall Stroke Average of 65.33 for the three rounds. Sunday will be a big day but Peter may be helped by St Andrews, a course that suits his game.

Joost LUITEN -18

Joost Luiten got off to a flyer in Round 3 at St Andrews with 31 on the front nine, but stuttered slightly coming home for a third round 68. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 27 year old golfer from The Netherlands is once again so strong from tee to green, hitting 33/45 fairways and 50/54 greens so far (the best of all the players alongside Seve Benson), plus he is scoring exceptionally well across the different hole types. With two wins under his belt already this year, Joost will start as one of the final round favourites to take the title.

David HOWELL -18

David Howell converted one eagle and eight birdies against a single bogey on his way to a superb third round 63 at St Andrews. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 38 year old Englishman ranks slightly lower for the driving categories but he is still managing to hit plenty of Greens in Regulation, and he is one of six players to drop just two shots over the first three rounds (alongside Levet, Otto, A Hansen, Lockerbie and Åkesson). The four time European Tour winner has not tasted success since 2006, but there is no doubt he will be part of an exciting Sunday conclusion.

Ernie ELS -18

Ernie Els converted eight birdies on his way to a cracking bogey free third round 64 at St Andrews. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 43 year old South African has driven the ball long but averaged only 58.1% for Driving Accuracy (ranking well down on the field), although the errant drives must not have fallen into much trouble because the Greens in Regulation figure is very solid. With excellent scoring across the different hole types, the 26 time European Tour winner will be trying to break his St Andrews duck in what is set to be a great final round tussle.

Richard MCEVOY -18

Richard McEvoy converted five birdies on his way to a bogey free third round 67 at Kingsbarns. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 34 year old Englishman is strong across the board, hitting lots of fairways and greens as well as putting exceptionally well. Richard currently ranks 171st on the Race to Dubai, so a win or a very big finish will help avoid a potential trip back to Tour School.

Martin KAYMER -18

Martin Kaymer drilled in nine birdies on his way to a sublime third round 63 at St Andrews. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 28 year old German golfer is ominously driving the ball long and straight, and hitting lots of greens, plus he has accumulated more birdies than any other player in the field (22 in total). Interestingly he has not quite got to grips with the Par 3’s so far this week, but that won’t worry the ten time European Tour winner who is starting to show some consistent form (great for next year’s Ryder Cup).

Shane LOWRY -18

Shane Lowry converted one eagle and seven birdies against a single bogey on his way to a stunning third round 64, the low round of the day at Carnoustie. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 26 year old Irish golfer is driving the ball long but hitting slightly fewer greens than the other leading players (44/54). However, with 25 single putts and just 83 putts in total over the three rounds the two time European Tour winner certainly has his eye in on the greens (a vital ingredient for a busy to and fro Sunday afternoon leaderboard).
