Round 4 of the BMW International Open produced 47 sub-par rounds and a field average score of 70.69. Ernie Els emerged victorious with Thomas Björn coming in second, then Levy, Wiesberger, Kaymer and Noren finishing as the other closest challengers. We analyse their performances plus we round up the final Genworth Statistics leaders.

Ernie ELS -18
Ernie Els held the field at bay to secure a wire to wire victory and the 28th European Tour title of his career. Looking at his Genworth Statistics for the week, the 43 year old South African did not rank very high rank for Driving Accuracy but he produced some imperious approach play, hitting 64/72 Greens in Regulation as well as 7 of the Par 5 Greens in sub-regulation two shots (the best by quite some margin). What can we say about the four-time Major Champion? He is a class act.

Thomas BJÖRN -17
A couple of errant drives on the back nine were potentially all that stood between Thomas Björn and his 14th European Tour title today (they were almost unexpected considering it was a real strength in his game this week). Looking at his overall Genworth Statistics, the 42 year old Great Dane ranked 9th for Driving Accuracy, 15th for Greens in Regulation, 2nd for Putts per GIR and 1st for Birdies per Round. He is now 4th / 2nd / 2nd from his last three starts.

Alexander LEVY -16
After a strong start to his final round, Alexander Levy dropped a few shots on the inward nine to finish up with a 71 and 3rd place overall. Looking at his Genworth Statistics for the week, the 22 year old French talent performed steadily from tee to green but he really excelled with the short stick. This cheque for €125,200 is Alexander’s biggest to date and it will do wonders for his Race to Dubai position and securing his playing rights for next year.

Martin KAYMER -15
Martin Kaymer converted six birdies against three bogeys on his way to a final round 69, finishing as the highest placed German golfer. Looking at his Genworth Statistics for the week, the 28 year old home favourite produced some fantastic long game statistics, ranking 2nd for Greens in Regulation (although a full 7% behind Ernie Els for this category) and ranking 1st for Par 5’s in 2 (hitting 9 Par 5 greens in sub-regulation).

Bernd WIESBERGER -15
Bernd Wiesberger finished the final round strongest of all the contenders, with four birdies in the last five holes. Looking at his Genworth Statistics for the week, the 27 year old Austrian golfer drove the ball superbly, ranking 9th for Driving Accuracy and 2nd for Driving Distance, plus he single putted 35 greens (only Darren Fichardt accumulated more). A third European Tour title may not be far away for Bernd, who is showing some excellent form.

Alex NOREN -15
An indifferent final round for Alex Noren of four birdies and four bogeys for 72 dropped him down into a tie for fourth overall. Looking at his Genworth Statistics for the week, the 30 year old Swedish golfer seemed to struggle a little with the long game in comparison to the other leaders, but his touch on and around the greens was sublime and he still managed to drop just six shots in total. With tied 4th place finishes from his last two events, Alex most definitely has another gear to his game, which may appear at any point.
