The 2025 Team Cup at Abu Dhabi Golf Resort wasn’t just a showcase of world-class golf; it was a celebration of community, youth engagement, and the game’s potential to inspire the next generation.
Thanks to an innovative campaign led by the DP World Tour, the event left an unforgettable and indelible mark on schools across Abu Dhabi.
In the lead-up to the three-day Team Cup, won so convincingly by GB & Ireland over Continental Europe on Sunday, nine schools across the Emirate hosted engaging assemblies designed to introduce students to golf and spark excitement for the event.
More than 4,520 students participated in these lively sessions, featuring activations, lessons, and challenges that created a fun and accessible introduction to the sport. The result? A surge in enthusiasm that saw over 2,700 junior tickets registered(?) for the tournament – a clear testament to the campaign's impact.
The excitement reached its peak on Friday, as 405 students from various schools descended on the Abu Dhabi Golf Resort to experience the Team Cup first hand.
The day was packed with activities, including beginner-friendly ‘Get into Golf’ lessons, a Future Falcons Zone supported by Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Emirates Golf Foundation (EGF), long-putt challenges, thrilling trick-shot performances, and interactive experiences in the spectator village.
Students also had the chance to soak up the electric atmosphere at the first tee, leaving with lasting memories and a new appreciation for the game as they witnessed a masterclass in the game by some of the Tour’s superstar performers.
This initiative is part of the DP World Tour’s broader commitment to growing the game of golf at the grassroots level.
Through its support of the EGF and programmes like this, the Tour is ensuring that the sport becomes more inclusive and accessible to young talent in the region.
As Dubai-based professional golfer Tommy Fleetwood noted during the event: “The next step is seeing a local winner on the DP World Tour – and initiatives like this are how we’ll get there.”
Tom Phillips, Director of Middle East for the DP World Tour, added: “Engaging with local communities and inspiring young people is at the heart of what we do.
“The incredible response to our school assemblies and the turnout at the Team Cup shows just how much potential there is for golf to grow in this region. We’re committed to working with the Emirates Golf Federation and supporting programmes like this to ensure the future of the sport is bright, inclusive, and truly global.”
By combining the excitement of the Team Cup with meaningful outreach in schools, the DP World Tour has not only introduced golf to thousands of young people but also laid the foundation for a stronger, more vibrant golfing community in the UAE.
With such a successful start, the future of golf in the region looks brighter than ever. Who knows? Among the students who took part this year, there might just be a future DP World Tour champion.
