The American’s playoff win at the SDC Championship in South Africa last weekend sparked jubilant scenes on the concluding ninth hole, with Gumberg now having secured full playing status on golf’s Global Tour for the foreseeable future.

The 28-year-old was in a very different position just eight months ago where he came through a qualifier to earn a place in the 156-strong field at the Irish Challenge.

Gumberg would go on to have an exceptional week at Headfort Golf Club, carding rounds of 67-68-69-70 to finish in a share of second place, and pave the way for more playing opportunities on the Challenge Tour on the 2023 Road to Mallorca.

A tied third finish at the Farmfoods Scottish Challenge supported by the R&A two weeks later would help Gumberg finish 45th in the season-long Rankings to ensure full playing status on the Challenge Tour for the 2024 season.

After an encouraging start to the Challenge Tour season which included a tied 17th finish in the Dimension Data Pro-Am, Gumberg is now a winner on the DP World Tour.

“This changes my life,” he said after securing victory. “What I’ve accomplished here, I can pick my own schedule and set a plan for the year which is something I’ve never been able to do.”

Gumberg’s life-changing victory came in just his 14th career start on the DP World Tour and sees him rise up to 15th in the Race to Dubai Rankings. He is also projected to climb close to 250th on the Official Golf World Rankings, up from 669th.
