Andreas Halvorsen will enter the final round of the Danish Golf Challenge with a three-stroke lead after carding a third consecutive six-under-par round of 66 on moving day at Odense Eventyr Golf.
Halvorsen made a solid start to his round, maintaining his overnight score until picking up a pair of birdies at the seventh and eighth. His run continued on the back nine with further gains at 10 and 11, before an eagle at the par five 18th took him to 18-under-par after 54 holes.
“I feel like I hit it better off the tee today than I did the previous two days,” he said, “so that helped me a ton.
“My iron game wasn’t as good, but I managed to do well with my lag-putting, save a couple of pars, and obviously get a few birdies as well.”
The Norwegian was delighted with his eagle at the last, which stretched his lead to three shots heading into the final round.
“The eagle is obviously a bonus,” he said. “I’ve hit it short every day there as the tee shot doesn’t really suit my eye.
“I played it short of the hazard, hit a three wood into the green, and got lucky that it turned out good today. Making the putt on top of that was awesome.”
The 27-year-old qualified for the 2024 Road to Mallorca after winning twice on the Nordic Golf League last year to finish fourth on its 2023 Order of Merit. He is hoping to draw on that winning experience during the final round in Odense tomorrow.
“Last year was my first time actually winning on a tour,” he said. “Hopefully I can bring some of that experience into here as well.
“It’s obviously a higher level, but that feeling coming down the stretch is going to be pretty similar, I’m sure, to what I felt then.
“Hopefully I can just keep doing what I’ve been doing and trust that it’s going to hold up.”
Icelander Gudmundur Kristjansson lies second at 15-under-par, with Spaniard Joel Moscatel and Dane Peter Launer Baek – who is playing on his home course this week – two shots further back in third.
Frenchman Félix Mory sits fifth at 12-under-par, one shot clear of Englishmen Bradley Bawden and John Parry in sixth, while Spaniard Javier Sainz and Englishman George Bloor share eighth at ten-under-par.
The final round of the Danish Golf Challenge gets underway at 7:30am on Sunday, with Halvorsen teeing it up at 9:39am alongside Kristjansson and Launer Baek.
