Padraig Harrington made a strong start to the defence of his Iskandar Johor Open title with the Irishman five under par after 14 holes.
Starting at the tenth at Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club, Harrington soon began to climb the leaderboard with an eagle at the 13th before birdies at the 15th and 16th saw him move to four under.
A bogey at the next checked his progress but he picked up further birdies at the second and fourth holes to join Joost Luiten at the head of the field.
The Dutchman sat at five under par through ten holes after a birdie at the 13th was followed by four in a row from the 15th as Luiten played the back nine in 31.
Charlie Wi, Michael Hoey, Henrik Stenson and Scott Barr were locked together at four under while Louis Oosthuizen was in a group at three under par, the South African having played 14 holes of his opening round.
