Hero Open - Day four digest

Everything you need to know from the final day in St Andrews.

Sean Crocker

Crocker took the silverware - with a little luck along the way - Pepperell put a pep in his step and Hundebøll made us all take notice on Sunday at the 2022 Hero Open.

Here is everything you need to know from day four at Fairmont St Andrews.

Crocker battles to maiden victory

Sean Crocker secured his maiden DP World Tour title after holding off Eddie Pepperell to claim a wire-to-wire victory. Crocker began the day with a two-shot lead but was joined at the summit early on as the chasing pack closed in on him. Englishman Pepperell set the clubhouse target on 21 under and while Crocker endured a nervy finish, he signed for a closing 68 to win by a single shot. "Winning a golf tournament is not easy," said the American. "And Eddie did not make that easy for me either. Definitely haven’t felt this way in a long time, if ever. Winning junior tournaments and amateur tournaments is something but to win on a pro tour as established as this and has been running as long as this is as special as anything for me."

Pepperell magnanimous in defeat

One of the most popular players on Tour, Pepperell's second-place finish will have brought a smile to the face of many fans. The Englishman's closing 65 took him within a single shot of a third DP World Tour victory and boosted his chances of regaining his full playing privileges for 2023. And, as always, he was open, honest and refreshing post-round. "I really like Sean, I wish him the best, I wouldn’t begrudge him the win," he said.

Hundebøll makes a big impression

Playing just his third ever DP World Tour event and first of 2022, Oliver Hundebøll showed that we may have yet another Danish star in the making. The 23-year-old won the Mangaung Open earlier this season on the European Challenge Tour and has a second and two further top fives to sit second in the Road to Mallorca Rankings. A closing 67 saw him tie for fifth in Scotland - Hundebøll is one to watch.

Those golfing Gods

Sometimes it's your day - just ask Crocker.

Clutch from Pepperell

After four birdies in six holes put him right in it, Pepperell bogeyed the ninth. Another would likely have ended his chances completely. The Englishman parred from 21 feet to set up a thrilling back nine.
