Fox's phenomenal form continues

Ryan Fox is enjoying a rich vein of form at the moment, having achieved top-three finishes at the Soudal Open, Dutch Open and BMW International Open in the last two months. He was at it again on Thursday, firing eight birdies - including four in a row after the turn - and no bogeys to lead the way on eight under par.

Defending champion entertains the locals

Playing in the same group as home hero Pádraig Harrington on Thursday, last year's winner Lucas Herbert was being followed by huge crowds at Mount Juliet Estate. And he gave them something to cheer as he holed this chip at the tenth for an eagle...

Campillo's big finish

Jorge Campillo got off to a steady start on Thursday, reaching the turn in 35 after picking up one shot on the front side. But it was a different story completely on the back nine as the Spaniard followed up a birdie at the tenth with five gains in six holes from the 13th, closing his round with a hat-trick of birdies to get to seven under.

Enormous crowds in fine voice

Irish golf fans flocked to Thomastown to see their favourite players in action on day one, with Irish Major Champions Shane Lowry and Harrington among the star attractions. The locals gave their vocal backing to the players all day, and the pros appreciated the support. Harrington, fresh from his victory at last week's U.S. Senior Open, said: "It really was great. It's a big crowd well behind me. There was a bit of a buzz, and I played nicely all the way through, so it was OK. It's important to play nice when you have the home crowd. And, yeah, hopefully I can deliver a little bit more tomorrow, but I think the crowds are helping."

Plenty of money raised at the 18th

With Make-A-Wish Ireland receiving €500 for every birdie at the 18th hole this week through the Birdies for Wishes initiative, a brilliant €6,000 was raised on day one, with 12 players picking up a shot there.
